Recruitment & HR matters
News from the MD
Summer's approaching, although it
doesn't feel like it with all this rain ! The
green shoots (dare we talk about them ?) are definitely
appearing. We have seen a steady increase in
workflow since early 2009 and now have more work in
progress than at any time since September 2008. More and
more companies are asking us to discuss recruitment and
quote for our services. We are winning work from new
clients. The market is definitely improving and already
we have had discussions about what is likely to happen
in Autumn, yet it only seems 5 minutes ago that
everything fell off a cliff last September. The market
has been very tough but let's not be frightened to start
talking things up again and hopefully, this will have an
increasingly positive impact. Here's to a good summer
and continued recovery in the final months of 2009.
Best regards,
Paul
Griffiths MD

Metropolitan University - Business
School
Today, unemployment rates for the 18-24
year olds are considerably higher than the national
average at more than 16%.
MMUBS are working
hard to ensure their graduates are better placed to get
a job when they graduate. To this end Paul Griffiths (MD
Cork Griffiths) was recently invited to present at
the Business School. Part of his remit was to
equip the lecturers with the tools they require to
ensure students knew how to 1)Complete a CV 2) apply for
jobs, whether through recruitment agencies, web sites or
directly to a company 3) conduct themselves in
interviews and 4) Make the most of the soft skills to
enhance their presentation and interview technique. This
very successful event will hopefully better equip our
next generation of workforce to 'fulfill their potential
and get a job they are well prepared for'
Cathy
Bakewell, MMUBS Lecturer commented "It was a really
useful session...the importance of
reliability, punctuality, and adaptability,
also echoed my beliefs; qualifications are so
widespread, employers will probably be forced to look
ever-increasingly at extra-curricular/work experience.
Based on this information, we're better informed now to
shape curricula and careers education...once again
thanks for your presentation".
HR Employment
Law Briefing
Our Outplacement and
Redundancy Specialist Bob Collier recently presented a
seminar, in conjunction with Origen, on the
benefits of providing outplacement to employees facing
redundancy and also specialist counselling to those
employees not affected by redundancy. In this
recession these areas are of great importance to any
business which has to make sacrifices in order to
survive.
If you are interested in the above topics
and would like to have a copy of the slides used in the
presentation, then please contact sarahashworth@corkgriffiths.co.uk and they will be emailed directly to you.
Finally,
if you are considering redundancies in the future and
would like to discuss this in strict confidence, please
do not hesitate to get in touch with Bob on the new
number above.

In addition to its well regarded recruitment
skills Cork Griffiths has some significant and unique
extra benefits in its client

satisfied with the progress or suitability of a new

appointments
Yes you did read this

so customer reassurance comes as
standard
.An agreement to monitor the
performance of appointees during their first
year.
During the first
